Sometimes I wish I was as wildly prolific as other writers seem to be. It would feel amazing to be able to release multiple books per year, maybe even throwing some comics in the mix as well. Sadly, that just doesn’t seem to be the case for me.
Obviously, it’s worth bearing in mind that a lot of the time when authors are releasing a half-dozen or more titles in one year it often comes down to scheduling or rereleases of lesser known works. Books can sometimes be put through long gestation periods between writing to actual publication, meaning the writer can work on other things in the meantime.
For example, right now I’m sitting on a completed full draft manuscript for one novel, while working on two others whilst I try and pitch the first to agents to try and break into the traditional publishing pipeline. Even if I successfully manage that, the book could go through numerous edits, art production periods, and then slotting into a publishers publication schedule, which means I could even write multiple other books in the time that takes to release.
However, some authors are genuinely insanely prolific, capable of bashing out a whole novel draft in a month or less. Sadly, that just isn’t me.
